1) Give us a brief history on yourself before becoming a Mom.

Before I jumped into the motherhood adventure, I lived the life of a perpetual student and traveler! After finishing my first degree, I went on to do my M.A, followed by Law School.

2) Tell us about your child (children). What makes them unique?

I have six amazing children. My eldest child is Maginnis and he is 17. Then come my gaggle of girls. Posy is 15, Spencer is 14 and Jessamy is 11. I finished off with two boys. Clancy is 10 and Finian is seven. Because there are six of them and I could write an essay on each one of them, I will just say that EACH child has his or her own unique personality. I don’t apply a one size fits all parenting approach to them. I treat them equally, but not the same. They have different needs and I respond to their differences.

3) What has been your greatest challenge since you’ve become a Mother?

When my eldest child was three-years-old, we received an autism diagnosis. This is tough news for any parent. But, we went right to work, creating an intensive therapy program and putting his development as our top priority. He is now a fun 17-year-old taking all academic courses in high school. He has countless friends, a black belt in tae kwon do, is a qualified life guard and the most amazing big brother to his five younger siblings. I couldn’t be more proud.

4) What has been your lowest point in your motherhood journey? How did you survive it?

Probably dealing with that very diagnosis. I survived it because I loved my child like nothing else. I survived it because that’s what mothers do. We don’t have a choice. I educated myself, I surrounded myself with a supportive community, I advocated hard and I kept my eye on the ball…… my son!

5) Do you have friends with similar challenges? Are you supported?

One of the challenges I have is as a working, entrepreneurial mother. We are an interesting breed. I have surrounded myself with women and mothers facing many of the same issues. I have found and fostered these communities online and in real life. Your network is your net worth!

6) What is the best part about being a Mom?

I actually think the best part for me is having SO many kids! I love watching the sibling dynamics and relationships……remaining positive about that helps me when they’re all bickering!
